  How to find us

The market town of Haddington is 20 miles East of Edinburgh along the A1 dual carriageway.  Travelling East take the second exit to Haddington - St Mary's is signposted from the main road.  Look to the South, and you will see the old church tower in the distance. Bullet gifmapBullet gif

Rev Jennifer Macrae

As I write this letter it looks as though summer may come after all! The sun is shining and flowers are adding more colour to the garden day by day. As you read this the Haddington festival will be under way and that always seems to me to be a time of excitement and busyness in the life of our community.

It’s been a time of excitement in the story of the church in recent days too. Sunday by Sunday since Easter we have heard about Jesus appearing to his disciples in all sorts of places - in the garden, as they walked along the road, on the beach where not only did he help them to catch lots of fish, but he cooked breakfast for them and then shared the meal with them. In other words he was with them in the ordinary things that were part of their everyday life. Now Jesus has gone from them and will not again be physically present on earth.

But they have been promised that he will be with them always. And as the post-Easter appearances of Jesus came to the end, the day of Pentecost brought the Holy Spirit, God’s gift to these first disciples, to inspire them and help them to carry out all that their master had charged them to do in his name.

That was a long time ago, but the promise is as relevant to us and as exciting now as it was then. The Holy Spirit is within us. Jesus walks beside us. God is always and everywhere in our world. Like these first followers, we will discover such presence in unexpected places and at unexpected times. But I think most of all we will find it in the everyday aspects of our living.

As the people of God we are richly blessed. Let’s live out that blessing and show in our living that God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit informs and nurtures us always. What a glorious thought for sunny and cloudy days alike!

With love and blessings as we journey together

Jennifer
