In Ancient China, Buddhist monasteries didn’t pay taxes, and periods of time throughout history saw churches paying no taxes, either. Whatever country, province, state, or region a person could have conceivably grown up in, and whatever the religion was, churches were usually exempt from paying taxes. But, what about today? What about the people today? Do churches pay taxes in modern America? Do churches have federal tax-exempt status? Some people say that the power to tax churches interferes with the free right to exercise religion.

In the U.S., one of the clearest indications that churches will always be tax-exempt is that the U.S. Supreme Court has said that if the government has the power to tax churches, then it will hurt the free exercise of religion. There is no surer way to annihilate the free exercise of religion, than to allow the government to tax it. That status is what is responsible for churches have tax-exempt status. Taxing churches would break down the separation of church and state. It creates an insulation separating church and state when there is no power to tax. There is no surer way to separate religion and freedom than to tax it.

If the government had the power to tax churches, it could punish those views it didn’t find good. It could tax some churches and not others. It could tax churches that had one viewpoint and disregarded another.

Church leaders, however, are prevented from speaking from the pulpit in a negative way about politicians, or favorably, as the case may be. They are prohibited from doing so, and they may face a loss of their tax exemption privilege status if they do so. It is a good idea for churches to stay separated from state, and for them to acknowledge their tax-exemption status by not going through with anything that could undermine their status. They should not allow pastors or church leaders to speak politically from the pulpit. There are restrictions on pastors speaking about certain politicians in light of Scripture.

The separation between church and state is reinforced when there is no power to tax. Even though it might seem like a good idea to tax churches, because they should be paying like everyone else, it is still hard to tax churches because there is a wall between church and state, and that wall is there to guarantee the separation of church and state.

By creating a church website, you are getting your church more exposure which can help the church and its congregation grow and prosper. A church website is designed to allow a person to visit it and gain information about the church and what it stands for.

To create a website you must decide what kind of website you want and what you would like featured on it. The first step is to find an inexpensive and stable web hosting service. Try to find one that does not have banners, pop ups, and ads because they may be inappropriate and may not represent the church in a proper way.

Secondly, find someone that understands and knows how to design a website. You can hire a website designer or if your lucky, you may know someone that is willing to create it for the church for free.

The website needs to include include information about the church. You could include a picture of the pastor and (his or her) family and a short biography such as how long he has been ministering and any other important information. It gives a visitor a feeling that they are getting to know a little bit about the church and its pastor.

Try to include links that take a visitor to different areas of the website to explore. One area can feature the church’s phone number, address, and a map with directions how to get there. You could also include pictures of the church outside, of the staff, and pictures of activities that have taken place at the church. You can also feature a calendar that lists upcoming activities, luncheons, fund raisers, or anything that takes place in your church. Most importantly list the times of your church’s services in case someone may want to visit the church.

Lastly, keep up to date with the website. Make sure that any changes that are made to the church are changed on the website, such as phone numbers or any important dates.

Remember your website is going to represent your church. Make sure that it interests and appeals to visitors online.

Government budget cuts are affecting most sectors of education, bringing the importance of tutoring services offered by churches to a new high. Public schools in the United States need better funding, sadly, and have for years. Teaching positions continue being cut, new curriculum goes on the back burner, and even janitorial services are inadequate. Fixing this budget deficit is not happening overnight, but thankfully, many churches are stepping up to help educate our youth.

Virtually all religious denominations are opening their doors, creating programs that fit the need in their community. Reading skills are the most important, of course, since once you become a good reader you can teach yourself anything. Other than tutoring at reading, however, other academic services offered by churches include:

• Basic Study Skills

• Math

• Algebra

• Trigonometry

• Social Studies

• English

• English As A Second Language

• Test Preparation

Mentoring is a big part of tutoring through community churches, beginning many life-long, friendships. These programs are usually free to low-income families or on a need-based set of standards. Anyone with a true desire to learn is welcome.

Church tutoring programs are non-profit, volunteer run, and do not discriminate by age, race, religion or any other factor. Tutoring sessions take place after school, weekends, during school breaks and on other days as they become available. Sessions may take place in a church, private home or school, whichever is available and works best for all. Pre-screening of volunteer tutors for any previous criminal activity helps ensure safety.

Creating a safe, happy environment for tutoring is conducive to learning. Some children lack a proper learning environment at home, or are easily distracted in the classroom where there is one teacher per twenty students, or more. Churches who offer free tutoring services recognize the importance of helping these kids to help themselves. Children are not just our future; they are also our here-and-now.

If you are in charge of planning a trip for your church, it is vital that you remember everything that everyone, not just yourself, will need on the trip. However, making sure that everyone has everything that they will need is not a simple task. You have your own problems to worry about, so it is important that you keep others in mind when dealing with your own difficult pre-trip problems.

The first step to take when planning a church trip is to become organized. This will help ensure that you do not forget anything, as well as ensuring that nobody else does either. If you were to forget something vitally important it could ruin the whole trip for either yourself or your entire church group. By staying organized you can avoid forgetting anything, and you will have a much more enjoyable trip. By keeping organized, and possibly making a check list with your church group, you can feel assured that everything is taken care of before your church group leaves for their trip.

The second step involves communication with your church group. You need to constantly remind them about everything that they will need to bring with them on the trip, odds are that somebody will forget something. Since it is a church trip in particular, make sure that everyone brings their bibles. This is pretty much a vital part of any church trip, so how could you let someone leave their bible behind? The answer is, you don’t. Keep in contact with everyone and not only make sure that they bring everything, but make sure that they know the exact day and time of departure for the trip. You may even want to tell everyone that you are leaving 15 minutes earlier then you really are, as this will assure that everyone shows up to leave on time.

If you follow these two important steps you can almost guarantee that you will have a successful trip. If everyone is prepared for the trip to the best of their abilities, it is very unlikely that anything will go wrong. Do your best to keep it that way, and help out fellow church members if they do happen to forget something. You can share an item of your own, such as your bible, if someone else forgets theirs. Successful trips are all about cooperation with each other, a simple gesture of kindness can make a person’s trip one to remember.

Members of the clergy need good vision for a variety of reasons. Although the type of vision we are discussing does not necessarily mean their ability see with their eyes. A vision statement or agenda is a necessary facet for the planning and future of their congregations.

The vision of the clergy of a church can determine the faithfulness and dedication of that church. The clergy’s motivation and leading is what aids the members of the congregation in their walk with the Lord. This in turn determines how productive the church will be in their community service and in their prayers and dedications. The relationship of the church and the membership depend upon the focus and discipline of the leaders of the flock.

Perseverance is a big factor in keeping on track. Writing down the mission statement for the ministries of the church and the overall agenda and focus of the church will be a viable tool in order to remain steadfast towards one’s goals. This vision statement will also aid in the development of the sermons and in any counseling or condolence services.

It is easy to become overwhelmed as the flock grows. As the membership of the congregation grows, so does the level of responsibility for their well being. The clergy must minister to the various needs of their members. Some of the services can include pre-marital counseling, confessions, and teaching the scriptures in order to foster proper growth and maturity in the Lord. A mission statement can aid in these tasks by identifying the path on which the pastor should venture.

The vision of the church can also determine the numbers that attend the church. Once an official statement is put on paper there is also the possibility of losing some of the membership. Some individuals may feel that the church’s agendas do not meet what they feel is right for them. While this is a possibility, it is important to keep in mind that not everyone will identify with a specific vision or goal. That is ok, pray for the flock that leaves and remember to always minister and guide those who remain loyal to the congregation. As the clergy and leaders of the church remain hopeful, prayerful, and always stay focused.

A wedding is a large affair that will be remembered for the rest of your life. It is one day that will always remain dear to your heart, and will always bring up fond memories. It is for this reason that one should seriously consider having their wedding in a church. The church setting adds reverence and beauty to a day of joy.

Many are concerned with not being members of a specific church. This is not usually a problem. Many denominations will allow for two individuals to be married by their ministers in their church buildings. Usually the couple simply needs to agree to go through a counseling session or two to make sure they are suitable one for another. This is to assure that when the couple are married, that they will remain married.

Another aspect that the couple will need to take into consideration is the number of guests they plan to invite. An informal ceremony outside of a church may cause confusion and even a lack of space for qall the guests to watch the ceremony. The church setting for the wedding will allow for order to be maintained and for all the desired guests to have a place to sit and watch the ceremony.

These are not the only advantages to having a church wedding though. There is also the beauty of the church interior and the ability to walk down an actual aisle. The ability to garnish the pews with beautiful flowers and to have organ music, a formal alter to be married at as well as the presence of a member of the clergy to marry the couple are all perks to getting married in the church.

If the church is large enough, there is also the ability to hold the reception in the same location. This does away with the confusion for guests to have to find the location of the reception and acquire the transportation to get there. A church is an ideal place to hold this special event. If one of the individuals in the couple are a member of the church members of the congregation may also be available to aid with the dinner service, decorations and set up for the wedding and the reception.

A church wedding offers the tradition and beauty that many brides yearn for. The establishment of the church also adds to the validity of the vows and the counseling that is usually required for the couple before the ceremony aids in making sure of the success of the union.
